The planter raised beds can stay outside in the winter.
Does anyone think this would work for squash plants
Yes. This could work with squash plants, but I wouldn't put more than two in it.

Do you fill this with dirt? Is there some kind of liner needed???
You don't need a liner. It is solid with drain holes. I added a very shallow layer of rock (1 bag was enough for both planters). I added dirt on top of the rock - again, 1 bag was enough for both.
